Martin acquired the Vega banjo company in 1970. In 1976 Martin produced a guitar, the D-76 and a banjo, the V-76 to celebrate the United States Bicentennial. These instruments were produced in limited numbers- 1,976 guitars and only 76 banjos. They were not sold in sets but on a first come first served basis to dealers.
